Here is the end of my Daily Creates, and what an experience it was. I had fun doing them, most days anyway, sometimes it was just like lets get this done, I think that is just because I have fairly long days. I work eight hours a day, have five children and I am a full time student as well so just a lot going on, with work, school, taking care of my kids, making sure there is food on the table and clean house to come home too and things like that. Overall though I enjoyed this activity and think that on occasion I will do some here and there if there are some that I find interesting and enjoyable to do. At some point I would like to expand more into the audio and video, as I touched based with the others. I like to write rhymes as I have stated before so maybe I could put both together and make a music video or something like that if there are any creates out there like that. However, we will have to just wait and see what happens. So, here are my last six to finish up my thirty day challenge. Thanks
Day 25
Daily Create: @ds106dc If you were a dance what type would you be?#tdc1968#diglitclass So my type of dance would be break dancing, because it is awesome, I wish I could do that in real life, but you can dream right. Sorry there is no sound on videohttps://t.co/YJvg1Cqdfe

Day 28
Daily Create: @ds106dc Do Some Research on Spaghetti Westerns.#tdc1457#diglitclass So spaghetti westerns are westerns made cheaply in Europe. The one that I would add to my watch list would be "Get Mean" a movie about time travel, saving a princess, etc. Sounds like a good film

Daily Create: @ds106dc My favorite first memory is from when I was 2 or 3 years old, my uncle bought me a bike, put me on it and pushed me, I rode that thing forever because I didn't know how to stop, needless to say I've never needed training wheels. #tdc2302#diglitclass
Well, I will have to say that this was a new experience for me, I had a hard time trying to figure out how to make this as good as I could. I will say that this was a quest all in itself. This story is about me as a learner, going back to school to become a teacher. In addition to that it is also about who I am doing this for and that is my children, they are everything to me, no matter how frustrated they make me. I want to be able to provide for them and create a great life for them, so this is why I am doing this quest to become a teacher. Also to help change lives for students wherever I end up teaching at. Well I hope you like the video, I am sure it could of turned out better but there is always room for progress, we need to keep learning and growing. Enjoy
I feel that I have been innovated as a learner this semester because I have been venturing into new territory this semester. I say this because I have never used social media, I have never wanted too, and to be honest I still don’t want too. However, I did and it was not entirely bad, I have met some cool new people through Twitter, classmates, some people that I have known for some time, and new acquaintances, like teachers, and others that can help me with my future endeavors as a teacher. I have never had a blog either and so this experience was new to me as well, it has helped me with writing more, still not sure if I am a good writer but I am getting even faster at typing on the computer so that is good.
I believe that innovation in learning is taking on new challenges, making sure that you are doing everything you can to learn as much as possible to become the best that you can be. “I take risks and try new things to develop and explore new opportunities.” (Couros, 2015) This is a good point that Mr. Couros makes, it is good to take risks, try new things and develop and explore new opportunities because how are you going to grow if you are not doing this. In addition, I also feel that it is important to move forward, you cannot keep going backwards, it just doesn’t work, I mean maybe for some things but if you are not moving forward, you are stuck and that is not a good place to be. You must be innovated and move forward and do everything you can to become the best you can be.
For me I think that I unlearned that we all don’t need to do the same thing, what I mean by this is that for our ILP, everyone got to do something different. I am used to everyone having the same assignment, which for the most part we did but it is good that we do something different. Yes, we all had to do an ILP but we got to choose something we wanted to do, which I thought was different, yet in a good way. In a way I feel that I have plenty to unlearn, things have become routine if that makes sense, and so I need to unlearn things that have become familiar so that I can grow and become more diverse. This is not only in my learning but in my future as an educator as well I need to know that even though I am the teacher I can learn so much from the students as well. I can use other sources to help guide the students in the direction they need to go. “We need to unlearn the idea that we are the sole content experts in the classroom, because we can now connect our kids to people who know far more than we do about the material we are teaching.” (Richardson, 2007)
In closing I feel that it is important to both be innovated in learning and to unlearn things. We need to be able to take risks and advance in a way that makes us learn as much as possible and take advantage of the opportunities that are out there for us to grow. In the same sense we need to unlearn things that we have known to be familiar and find a way to be better in our own light.
To be honest, these daily creates are very interesting to do, but some days I am just so tired that I honestly just forget to do them. And I have come to realize that I really only like the writing, photography, and drawing the most. I know that I need to branch out to the others more and I will try and do that some with the last 14 creates. I cannot promise anything because as with anything in life, you get familiar with the things you know. I will have to look and see if there is anything along the lines of rapping and do something audio for that, but we’ll have to see. Without further adieu, here are my next eight creates.
Daily Create: @ds106dc "Wish you were here" This is Pittsburgh PA and I wish I was there, it is home to my favorite sports teams and somewhere I really want to visit, and during my first visit, whenever that happens, I might just never leave. #tdc2286#diglitclasspic.twitter.com/zxgaysGpfP
Daily Create: @ds106dc Name that Movie A man comes home from the war, next day leaves to sell chocolates. Meets a beautiful woman on the train ride, and again on the bus. He offers to pose as her husband for her traditional family, they fall in love. #tdc1635#diglitclass
I used the site Toondo.com to create my visual, it was kind of hard in the beginning. Well actually all the way through, because I would try and slide things away from the page and would move something I didn’t want and would have to go back and get the image back in there. However, it was fun to work with, I think that it will take some work to navigate around further and get used to the site. I did enjoy creating the comic strip because I think those are fun to make. I could use some work, as you can tell, but I think that for my first one it was a good start and you can do so much more. As I said you will need to learn to navigate around and find what works best and things like that.
The information that I used was just about my learning experience from researching about my Native American history and the culture that I am looking into to see where I fit into that culture. So, I think that I could have added more, but the little text boxes only fit so much in that little box that I just tried to put as much as I could without making it so small that you couldn’t see. I think that for me I would like to use this tool as an activity to help students become creative, like have them make a comic book about themselves, their interests, activities they enjoy and things like that. I do feel that there is value in presenting information in forms like this because it is creative and interesting and people can enjoy your creative side and things like that. All in all it was fun and that is the whole point to make something fun and something everyone can enjoy and I think that this is something that can do that.
I really enjoyed doing the ILP, I thought that it was very cool to learn more about my native American background, which is something that I was not too familiar with. Well I knew that I was Native American, well part of me, but I did not know too much about my tribe or anything like that. I just knew the name of the tribe and that was pretty much all I knew. I learned that there is a plethora of information out there on Native Americans, which I kind of already knew but even though it was out there I did not consider it too much. I find that I am busy with work, school and taking care of my kids, to really do much research so this was nice to be able to sit down and spend a couple hours a week considering information about my Native American background.
It was not too hard to get motivated most of the time, however sometimes it was a little difficult to find the time. I just don’t have much me time, and so I felt that sometimes it was busy work, you part of the class, so I was obligated to do it. Yet, when I would get into it, I felt that it would become easier poking around and finding information about my background, what makes me who I am, well part of who I am. I will have to do some research on the other parts of me, just to feel completed in what/who I am. I feel that you never stop learning who you are, what your made of and things like that, which is always a good thing. So, there was challenges with just getting motivated to jump in and start looking, especially with all the other course work and parental duties, finding time to get enough sleep so I am not falling behind at work either.
For me the best part of this whole thing was the information that I received. The fact that it was cool doing the research once I got into it. I think that anyone looking to find out about themselves can just start doing research on the matter and find out what they need to do. I feel that the next step for me is to do some genealogy and find out if I have any ancestors that go way back, and what they did and who they were. In addition, I really enjoyed learning more about the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa’s because now I feel that I know more about my Native blood and that is something very cool for me.
I feel that I would like to incorporate something like this in my classrooms. I think that it will help students who struggle with research and doing projects and things like that because this is something that they want to learn about. So, it will be important to them and it will help motivate them to learn about something. I would more than likely have this as a semester project, probably even both semester, they choose a topic to learn about and have it done at the end of the semester as part of their semester grade. I feel students would be really into this and would enjoy doing the project.
In conclusion, I feel that this is a very good project to have students do, and I enjoyed doing it, it was fun once I got started and I learned a lot and feel that the information that I took away from this will be very useful in my life and something that I can share with my kids to help them understand their Native American background and why we go to Pow Wow and things like that. I want them to embrace their background, not shy away from it and love the fact that we are Native American, even though it is just a little bit, it is part of our blood and something I am not afraid to embrace anymore.
When I started to look over the daily create list, I was like man this is going to be a little overwhelming, well it didn’t turn out that way. It has been kind of refreshing doing different activities and writing poetry and things like that. I love poetry and writing poetry, it makes me think of rapping which I really enjoy too. However, it has been tough on some days to always get one in there. Like on days when I travel to Chadron for my night class and things like that. When I get home I just don’t really want to get online and do one, needless to say I have missed a few days here and there so I am worried about that a little. Therefore, I am going to try and get one in every day from now on so that way I can finish them on time.
I will say this, I like writing poetry and even though I cannot draw very well, I enjoy drawing as well. So, needless to say the drawing and writing ones are my favorite. My goal for future ones is to branch out a little more as well, like the audio, photography, and video daily creates. We will see what happens, but so far this has been a good learning experience and something that helps you explore your inner creativity, so that is always a good thing.
Here are my first eight daily creates.

Day 7
Daily Create: @ds106dc Favorite thing to cook, it would have to be spaghetti, with some garlic bread. Simple, but very good, pasta is always a good thing. #tdc2174#diglitclass
I feel that digital storytelling and podcasts are a very useful tool to have in the classroom. As per the usual I was not too familiar with digital storytelling, yet I have heard some podcasts before, last semester in one of my economics classes. So, there was some familiarity there with podcasts. Funny story, I have read about the Adnan Syed. I work at a high school as a delivery driver, but I also work as a custodian as well when there is no school and during the summer. Long story short, we were cleaning a classroom and in her classroom, she had on the board this case and so I was reading all the information that she had and things like that, this kind of stuff interests me, I wanted to be a cop for long time, so anything dealing with crimes and facts is interesting. Yet I was unaware that there was a podcast series talking about this case, so that is cool and that is what this teacher must have been doing with her classmates on this case.
The benefits of using things like podcasts and digital stories in the classroom is that students can get involved more, they get tired or bored of hearing the same things all the time, when you bring an interesting podcast to the classroom for them to listen too, it changes things up and they can get reengaged if you will and open another world of information for them. I know that for some it might still be boring because all students are not the same and they all learn different. “It’s a really nice way to spend time together as a class,” says an English teacher at a private school. (Flanagan, 2015) she is speaking about podcasts. The possible disadvantages that I can see is that students will not want to learn the things they are required to learn during a specific semester or school year. I feel that podcasts have very good information, yet they may not have everything that the school requires for students to learn.
I believe that students would love to create in this way, I think that digital storytelling would allow them to create something where they can enjoy doing this and help others understand either a project they are doing, what they are doing with their lives, like goals, sports, other activities that interest them and make them who they are. I feel that students would really get involved in this type of activity because students these days love technology and doing things that deal with technology and this would allow them to do that. Some of the things that really surprised me is how well the students took to the Serial case involving Adnan Syed, this type of stuff I really find interesting and I just think that it was cool to see that students took to it so well and if they did not like it, they thought it was interesting that it was the most popular podcast. I also like the fact that it helps with skills that students need like listening and coming up with ideas on how to change things, what they should have done here, or this would have worked better if they did it this way. I really liked that the students, started looking at the clues and coming up with different scenarios and things like that, you know trying to figure out what really happened along with others from the show.
For me the biggest takeaway is that both tools could be very useful in the classroom. It will be beneficial to use because it will give students another avenue to learn from, and I think this is very important. With both, I just really feel that both activities are going to be very useful and help many students, because everyone learns differently so this will be another way for them to learn and grow and I think that this is important. We want students to learn as much as possible and if this is a way for them to learn, then that is a great thing and something that can be beneficial in the classroom.
For this week’s ILP I did some research on the Cree Indians, whom dwell in various parts of North America and these places range from the Rocky Mountains to areas along the Atlantic Coast. There is a Canadian presence as well and the most populated areas are Saskatchewan, and Quebec. (Indians.org) Just like other Indian tribes the Cree have many bands, some of them are the Woodland Cree, James Bay Cree, and Plain Cree, in Canada there are over 135 different bands. In both America and Canada there are over 200,000 members, this of course is registered members, so this number could be larger. In each reservation each Cree Indian tribe have their own, political system, school, police, government, and so forth. (Indians.org) The Cree language consists of English and French, those tribes in Canada rely on French as their form of language.
The name Cree is a truncated form of Kristineaux, which was a French adaptation that came from the James Bay Band. (Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica) The Cree people’s numbers diminished due to wars with the Dakota Sioux and Blackfeet and severe smallpox epidemics in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The Woodland Cree and the Plains Cree at the time of Canada’s colonization were the two largest bands, the Woodland Cree also known as the Swampy Cree or the Maskegon, were hunter, gatherers. They relied on the resources that they retrieved from hunting caribou, moose, bear, and beaver but they did rely heavily on hare because the other larger animals were scarce at times. However, sometimes hare was scarce as well so that would cause famine at times. (Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica)
Like other plains Indians, Plains Cree also lived on the plains of North America, and their economy focused on hunting bison, gathering wild plants. The Plains Cree also were more militant that the Woodland Cree because they obtained horses and firearms, which helped them to rage war against other Plains Indians. There were twelve different Plains Cree bands that each had their own chief and they also created a military system that integrated warriors from each band. (Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica) Religion and ceremony were very important and were a means of success in war and hunting of the bison.
From what I learned from my studies today, have shown me that all Native American tribes were so resilient, they did everything they could to survive, and provide for their families. Yes, there were plenty of sad times, plenty of not having enough or fear of certain things but, they kept pushing and trying to move forward. They created ways of living that would be hard for many to do now days, but it was nothing for them. My love for my Native American background and ancestors just keeps growing and growing because I know how hard they had to work to survive and live on the plains and reservations. There were so many trials and through it all they keep going. I think that they knew their place, and that was on the land, using what God put there for them to use, teaching each other how to hunt, fish, gather fruits, nuts, and other edible plants, and things like that. My hope is that one day I too can find my place in this world, to truly know what I am here for and what is my purpose.
This is one of my favorite dances at Pow Wow, it is called a Crow Hop and this is one of the best groups to sing the song, they are called Northern Cree.
